Title Page In to the Wild


Introduction Into The Wild is a survival exploration game which the players need to survive on a stranded island for as long as possible. Throughout the game, the player will repeat the actions of exploring the island, gathering food and water, and avoiding dangers that could potentially kill them. The player's end goal is to survive for 7 days which then a rescue team will arrive and rescue the player.


Description Once users enter our project, they will find themself sitting on a beach and a small airplane on the side. Then, users will see a narrative animation about the background story for the project. The animation will show the airplane was destroyed by a storm last night when the player character was driving the plane to cross the pacific ocean, and now he is finding himself on an unknown island. To survive on the island and wait for rescue, the player has to explore the island for life essentials, such as food and clean water. Throughout this journey, the player will experience various events similar to real life survival. For instance, if the player is not cooking the water and raw meats, then there are chances of them experiencing food poisoning which result in various symptoms (e.g. nausea, decrease stamina, damage to body etc.). Moreover, predators such as wolves may also prey on the player if the player is not careful about how they path in the fores.


Throughout the gameplay, the player will use keyboard and mouse interaction to control the character’s action to explore the island and collect resources. Using keyboard interaction, key WASD, to control the character’s movement, and the mouse to interact with the environment. For instance, utilizing raycasting to allow the player to pick up materials for crafting. Or using various tools (stone axe, stone spear etc.) to gather resources (food, wood, stone, and many more).


Key Features


- First person perspective control

Will be using the FPC (First Person Controller) from the Standard Assets for now.


- Interaction system (harvesting, interacting, and placing items)

Will be built by the team’s programmer.


- Survival system such as water & food requirements. As well as player health conditions in the form of a health bar.

Will be built by the team’s programmer.


- Crafting System (TBD) that allows players to craft tools to help them survive.

This is a long term goal which may / may not be added into the game depending on the development.


- Narrative (TBD) that will introduce where, why, how the player got where they are, and what their goal is.

Will be added later into the game by the team’s level designer.

Level (Map) Design

The experience will take place on an island containing various ecosystems that provide different resources which will help the player survive. Below is an image presenting a draft layout of the ecosystems.

At the moment, there are 3 general ecosystems. Grass plain, forest, and swamp. In the current plan, both the forest and the plain will primarily be a source of food for the player. The swamp on the other hand will be a source of medicine (herbs) for the player to recover damages and more (TBD).
